New Treatment

After my return to Colorado Springs on March 14, I have had a good
month to get medications adjusted, catch up on sleep, improve
digestion, go to many doctor appointments and other health treatments,
see a few friends, and even do a small amount of hiking. It has been
so good to be back and to feel the support of so many people. I have a
special caretaker, my youngest son, who came back from China to be with
me at this time.

On April 14, I began daily (Monday through Friday) radiation therapy at
the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center, along with oral chemotherapy
medication. So far the main symptom has been fatigue. It is expected
that this new treatment phase will be finished in six weeks, probably
June 3. I now expect to be doing well and seeing clients again in
July. I am grateful for the quality of work at the cancer center, the
amazingly good help I have had from Dr. Phyllis Clark and various
health practitioners, as well as wonderful friends in Colorado Springs.
This is an interesting new journey.

Nancy's New Life Journey

This is a brief summary of amazing things that have been happening in my life since I left for the east coast on Feb. 19. I had scheduled the trip to Baltimore so that I could help my son and his family with their children after my daughter-in-law had surgery for a broken elbow.

After I ran with all my carry-on luggage to catch the plane in time on Feb. 19, I began having perceptual problems and some disorientation. I seemed a lot better soon, and arrived safely. However, perceptual problems on my left side continued. My son had been watching me and he insisted I call my doctor. On Feb. 24, Dr. Phyllis Clark told me I had to go to the ER in Baltimore. I was admitted to one hospital and then transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital where I probably had the best neurosurgeon in the world do my surgery on Feb. 28. I had a small tumor in the occipital and parietal areas of my brain. The surgeon saved my vision and perception.

My youngest son came back from China to care for me, and I returned to Colorado Springs on March 14. Since then I have been busy with doctor visits, other health appointments, medication management, and catching up on sleep and rest. My son and a few others have been helping with my care, including driving.

I have now begun oral chemotherapy, as well as radiation treatments Monday through Friday for the next six weeks. The doctors say that my prognosis is good, and that I will probably be able to resume my regular life style by July. I expect to drive again and see some clients. I am also planning some special times with my extended
family.

All the healing thoughts and prayers, kind acts, and consideration from many people has been greatly appreciated. I have not yet had the energy to send thank you notes. I plan to tell more about what happened and give updates on this website in the future.

I prefer phone calls on my cell phone, rather than my home phone, because I am often resting or napping. E-mail is even better.

Warmly,

Nancy

Welcome

I've just set up this little blog (what's a blog?) so that mom and I can keep you all informed about mom's current conditions, latest thoughts, and whatever else we think you might want to know. Wait a while and hopefully we'll be able to put up a basic description of her condition and prognosis, and then we'll build on that with the latest news. Thanks so much for your prayers and your concern. We'll be in touch soon. :)
